HJ008 Assigned, SJ008 Introduced and Assigned

“This morning HJ008, which calls on Congress to propose the 28th Amendment, was assigned to the House Corporations, Elections and Local Government Committee. This afternoon, another resolution, coincidentally called SJ008, was introduced in the Senate with Sen. Jeff Wasserburger as prime sponsor and Sen. Chris Rothfuss as co-sponsor. SJ008 is identical to HJ008, so both resolutions will now proceed on separate tracks. The Legislative Service Office will step in to mediate which one goes forward if they both clear committee.

Later in the day, SJ008 was referred to the Senate Corporations, Elections and Local Government Committee. We are awaiting hearing dates on both resolutions.

We feel that this dual-track strategy doubles our chances of getting our resolution on to the floor of at least one chamber, if not both. But success in either committee is not guaranteed. We like our chances in the House Corporations committee because two of the co-sponsors for that resolution sit on that committee, so we are starting off in that committee with several clear supporters.

RIGHT NOW, we need constituents of the committee members in both chambers to contact their legislators to express support for the resolution and to solicit Yes votes. The members of the two committees are:
